NEW YORK (Christian Examiner) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump isn't Jesus, but if he was he'd being facing the same opposition from Democrats, conservative icon Rush Limbaugh said on his daily radio program Oct. 26.

Limbaugh was discussing his views on the Democrat opposition brought to bear against Republican candidates since the days of Ronald Reagan and said it doesn't matter who the candidate is.

"It doesn't matter. My point is, you're never gonna escape – we are never gonna escape – this kind of media assault based on who we nominate," Limbaugh said.

"It wouldn't have mattered. You could nominate – they would go out of their way to find ways to destroy Jesus Christ if he could be nominated as a Republican. The Democrats would do everything they could, include calling him a liar, the Bible a fake book, whatever it took. They would scour the historical record looking for children he had fathered, anything they could do to disapprove the gospel to discredit Jesus. That's who they are; that's what they do."

Limbaugh, whose words frequently cause ripples in both conservative and liberal camps, said he has been making the same point for years.

He said he watched as the Democrats turned Gov. Mitt Romney, "who is mild-mannered Mr. Gosh, Can't Even Get Noticed into the biggest walking Satan – El Diablo – politics had ever seen at that time, and they made it stick."

Limbaugh said the fact that Trump is hitting the media back may be the reason his message is resonating with so many people.
