'Happy Chewbacca' mom makes 'Good Morning America,' 'Late Show With James Corden'

NEW YORK (Christian Examiner) – The incredible ride for viral sensation Candace Payne continued this week, as she took her laugh and her joyful outlook on life to ABC's "Good Morning America" and CBS' "Late Show With James Corden."

She also visited the headquarters of Facebook and Lucasfilm, both of which are in the San Francisco area.

"You just make us happy, Candace," ABC's Robin Roberts told Payne, whose "Happy Chewbacca" video is the most-watched video in the history of Facebook Live, with 143 million views.

Payne, a stay-at-home mom, told "Good Morning America" that she has been thrilled to see the video make an impact on people.

"In all honestly, the best part of all of this is being able to share joy with people, to hear stories of people coming out of depression," Payne said. "I had one lady message me and tell me that she has an autistic daughter that hadn't laughed in two months. And she said every time she showed her the video, she laughed and laughed."

She also revealed that she nearly didn't even see the mask when she was shopping at Kohl's, where she purchased it.

"I walked through the toy section, and I accidentally bumped my shoulder into this box," she said. "And I had seen this before, but I didn't realize it made sound until that moment."

Payne took part in one of Corden's car skits, where he often has well-known singers ride with him to work. In the 90-second skit, Payne is set to drive Corden to work but can't stop laughing at her mask.

"You know that doesn't sound anything like Chewbacca, right?" Corden said, pretending to be frustrated and wanting her to drive.

J.J. Abrams – the director of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" – then appeared in the backseat.

"I've gotta disagree. That's an excellent Chewbacca," Abrams said.

The skit closed with Abrams urging Corden to put on a mask, which he does – and all three laugh uncontrollably.

Payne studied at Ouachita Baptist University, in Arkadelphia, Ark, a college related to the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. As the Christian Examiner previously reported, Payne said her laughter and joy comes from her relationship with Christ.

"As far as the joy aspect, it is much deeper than the Chewbacca mask," Payne said. "It was fun watching it go viral and fun watching people get some joy out of it, too."

Payne has been a worship leader since age 14. She sings, plays the guitar and writes music.

"We have a heart for our local church and just being obedient to God in the way we raise our kids and love our friends," Payne said.
