Celebs LeBeouf, Bieber & Gomez tweet, talk faith

LOS ANGELES (Christian Examiner) -–Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Shia LeBeouf are among a growing crowd of Hollywood celebrities who don't shy away from using social media to tweet in church and share their deepest spiritual insights in interviews.

Oct. 19 Bieber posted an Instagram photo from Hillsong Church in Los Angeles, as did Selena Gomez.

LeBeouf, in a recent feature in Interview Magazine, bared all about his spiritual transformation during the production of his most recent film "Fury."

The 28-year-old has most recently been in the spotlight for eccentric behavior including plagiarism, stalking Alec Baldwin, and appearing at a red carpet event with a paper bag on his head.

But this week, LaBeouf's candid conversation with Interview suggests his days of crisis are over.

"I found God doing Fury," LaBeouf told Interview. "I became a Christian man, and not in a f***ing bulls**t way—in a very real way."

"I could have just said the prayers that were on the page. But it was a real thing that really saved me. And you can't identify unless you're really going through it. It's a full-blown exchange of heart, a surrender of control. And while there's beauty to that, acting is all about control. So that was a wild thing to navigate."

LaBeouf says his decision was influenced by Fury costar Brad Pitt and director David Ayer who he claims is a "full subscriber to Christianity."

"Brad was really instrumental in guiding my head through this," LeBeouf said in the interview. Pitt is known to come from a "deeply Christian" family.

Other entertainers to reportedly have made a profession of faith include Justin Bieber.

Whether it's a Youtube video with Christian rapper Brandon Burke from this past Summer or a February Twitter account of prayer meetings with Hillsong NYC pastor Carl Lentz, media has widely reported Justin Bieber to claim a belief in Jesus as Savior in recent years.

In June, celebrity news sites reported Bieber spent a month doing intense Bible study which ended with his decision to be baptized.

But racist remarks, explicit photos, drug use and more stir many critics to question the validity of the Canadian singer's faith.

Bieber's mom Pattie Mallette, tells the rags-to-riches story of how she raised the Canadian-born youth in public housing before his rise to fame began in 2008—in her book "Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber's Mom."

She credit's God's grace for being able to overcome unimaginable obstacles in the face of abuse, poverty and an unexpected teen pregnancy.

Mallette and Bieber were reportedly to have been booed by the "entire crowd" at a Los Angeles Clippers basketball game on Mother's Day in May, according to the Daily Mail.
