SCOTTSDALE, Az.(Christian Examiner) -- The story of fatherhood and journey of brotherhood in times of war and beyond are the basis of a new historical fiction film to be released July 1 as Americans commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam war.

"From Vietnam battlefields to emotional battlefields of today, FAITH OF OUR FATHERS shows the power of faith in God to transform lives," the film's Producer Bobby Downes said.

"Uplifting and encouraging, FAITH OF OUR FATHERS is an important journey-one that brings honor and, hopefully, healing to vets and families affected by their great sacrifices," he continued.

Former Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects) and Si Robertson (Duck Dynasty) are among the stars who will appear in the upcoming Downes Brothers production directed by Carey Scott and from the same studio, Pure Flix, that created the hit movie God's Not Dead.

The film opens in 1969, as two young fathers -- a man of faith and a doubtful cynic -- leave for the war, leaving young families behind.

A generation later the soldiers' sons Wayne (David A.R. White) and John Paul (Kevin Downes) meet during a journey to The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Through their story, guided by the hand-written letters of their fathers from the battlefield, a story of faith, friendship and father's love unfolds.

"So many young men who went to Vietnam never came home," Robertson said in a statement. "Hey, they left families behind who never got to know those great guys. This story is about two sons on a road to learn about their dads. It's a story about Vietnam, but it happens in all wars, and I'm proud to be part of a film that helps bring peace to people."
