NEW YORK -- Three men are in custody and being questioned in connection with the shooting of two NYPD officers that responded to a robbery in the Bronx at 10:30 p.m. Monday night, according to reports. Officers Andrew Dossi and Aliro Pellarano responded to the call at the end of their shift and despite sustaining injuries and hospitalization, both are expected to survive the ordeal.

The officers were investigating the robbery of a Chinese restaurant and decided to join a response team. At the scene the suspects shot at them while running away, and they returned fire. Dossi, 30, was shot in the lower back and arm while Pellerano, 38, was hit in the chest and arm. The suspects stole a white Camaro before crashing the vehicle not far away.

One suspect was caught when he went to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with a gunshot wound from the shootout. The other two are in custody and being questioned.

Dossi is in critical condition and stable, while Pellerano is in stable condition. Both officers should survive, and they were commended by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for their bravery.

"Thank God these officers are doing well," said de Blasio. "These officers did something that was extraordinarily brave. They did it as part of their commitment. These officers had just come off their shift and upon hearing this call went back out in search of these criminals. The work they do is so profoundly important in this instance where they went above and beyond the call to protect their fellow New Yorkers."
