HOUSTON (Christian Examiner) -- "Get this kid a Bible, let him know that Jesus loves him, and invite him to church."
That is the solution Houston pastor Vaughaligan "Von Won" Walwyn said he came up with after praying about a school bullying situation involving his daughter Phoenix, age 8, and son Kingston, age 7.
When Walwyn first learned that his children encountered name-calling and taunting every day on the school bus, his wife talked with school officials who intervened and provided a temporary respite for Phoenix and Kingston.
I believe that extended their faith to believe in God that hopefully when they get older and have situations they have to handle that they'll look to the Bible for the solution before they look to the world or act out in the flesh.
But when the taunting started again a few weeks later, Walwyn told a reporter showing Christ's love was not his first inclination.
"I haven't always been a pastor. I haven't always been saved. My first option wasn't the Bible. I cracked a few jokes. You know, 'Crack him in the nose.'"
But after seeking God on the matter, Walwyn, who also has a ministry as a Christian rapper, realized sharing God's Word and Christ's love was the answer.
Phoenix reported the results to Houston CBS-affilliate KHOU.
"We gave [a Bible] to him and then like two minutes later when it was almost his stop to get off, he just said, 'Thank you and sorry for all the bad stuff we did to you.'" There have been no further reports of harassment since that time by the Walwyn children.
Walwyn is thankful that when his family put into practice the truths he teaches them about living a Christ-like lifestyle, his children saw positive results – results he hopes will be a lesson for life.
