ISIS training camp discovered just miles from U.S. Army base

EL PASO, Texas (Christian Examiner) -- Government watchdog Judicial Watch announced April 14 that Mexican army troops have discovered a terrorist camp only eight miles from El Paso, Texas, home of Fort Bliss and the U.S. Army's storied 1st Armored Division.

At the jihadist operating post in Anapra, just west of Ciudad Juarez, Mexican forces "discovered documents in Arabic and Urdu, as well as 'plans' of Fort Bliss," and Muslim prayer rugs, according to Judicial Watch.

Saying its sources included a Mexican Army field grade officer and a Mexican Federal Police Inspector, the oversight group reported "coyotes" have been moving Islamic State operatives into the United States at vulnerable points along the border with Texas and New Mexico on either side of El Paso. Infiltrating this country, these ISIS agents have been "conducting reconnaissance" of a number of military and civilian targets, including univerisities, power generation stations and a missile range as well as Fort Bliss.

Judicial Watch mentioned a second ISIS cell was located further west of Ciudad Juarez, near the town of Puerto Palomas, Mexico, but did not indicate when it had been discovered.

Meanwhile, the conservative media outlet Newsmax confirmed some of what Judicial Watch reported, noting the testimony of a Department of Homeland Security official who referenced "Twitter and social media exchanges" about ISIS adherents penetrating the United States from Mexico. Newsmax also cited a congressional source that claimed "at least 10 ISIS fighters had been captured" trying to cross into Texas, a report denied by DHS.
