AFL hosts Victorian tea
ORANGE — American Family Living will host its Women’s Victorian “Tuesday Tea” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 10 at the Victorian Mansion.
The theme of the event is “All I Know About Love I’ve Learned From Others” and will feature speaker Janet Lynn Mitchell.
She is a CLASS speaker who has made presentations at women's events, MOPS, family camps and single-parent groups. In the past few years, Mitchell has been an advocate for victims of medical malpractice and fraud. Her experiences helped propel state legislation addressing the issue.
Mitchell has also been on staff at Youth for Christ and Forest Home Christian Conference Center and has served as the director of a Christian preschool.
The cost of the event, which includes an elegantly catered tea, is $22.

‘Walk Your Talk’ set for May 17
MISSION VIEJO — “Walk Your Talk,” a 1.3-mile charity walk and family festival, will be held 9 a.m. May 17 beginning at Mission Viejo Christian Church
The walk will benefit ChildShare, a nonprofit project of the Orange County Social Services, which is geared toward raising financial support and providing resources for foster and adoptive children and parents in South Orange County.
The walk, which also ends at the church, will be followed by a family concert, free lunch, games for all children, face painting and free ice cream.
The Orange County Sheriff assault vehicle will be on display. Parents may also get resources to help them predator-proof their children.

‘Blaze of Glory’ to benefit wounded warriors
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Habitat for Humanity of Orange County will host its inaugural Blaze of Glory Motorcycle Ride on May 17, which is Armed Forces Day. Proceeds from the event will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Orange County’s “Homes for Heroes and Foundations for Families” neighborhood in San Juan Capistrano, where 14 of the 27 homes to be built there are being marketed to combat-disabled veterans.
Seven families have already been selected for this new neighborhood, including two military families currently residing on Camp Pendleton and two civilian families who live in San Juan Capistrano.
Grand Marshal for the ride will be Robert Patrick, of the CBS show “The Unit” and the movie “Terminator 2,” and the event will include a live and silent auction. Entertainment will be provided by the “Missiles of October.” An opportunity drawing will feature a new 2008 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe.
The ride begins at Orange County Harley-Davidson, winds through Santiago Canyon, to the “Homes for Heroes and Foundations for Families” development in San Juan Capistrano, out to the Pacific Coast Highway and then to its ending location at Oakley’s apparel headquarters in Foothill Ranch. The ride will conclude with lunch, vendor displays and opportunity drawings.
The pre-registration price is $35 per bike and $25 for a co-rider. There is a $5 discount with military ID. The cost rises by $10 the day of the event.

Dance, praise planned for night out
IRVINE — “Dancing Like David,” a Christian-oriented party that fuses music, light food and non-alcoholic specialty drinks, will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. May 23 at Lakeview Community Center.
Founded by Paul and Dee Golembiewski, the party is described as an “answer to an increasing demand for safe, non-secular activity. We promise a comfortable place to socialize with other Christians. Our praise events furnish an environment that brings Christians with diverse backgrounds and interests together in a common forum—a party, to praise our Lord and Savior.”
The event is for both couples and singles.

Warren Duffy to host Army’s ‘Spirit Awards’
YORBA LINDA — The Salvation Army Orange County Advisory Board will hold its Annual “Spirit Awards” Civic Dinner at 7 p.m. May 16 in the East Room at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.
Longtime radio personality Warren Duffy will serve as Master of Ceremonies. A veteran of nearly 50 years in radio broadcasting, Duffy was inducted into the Radio and TV Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2000. He previously served as the personal administrative assistant to Dr. Robert Schuler, pastored a church in Hawaii and had a brief stint as public relations director for the famous Beach Boys.
Cornet and trumpet player Philip Cobb, a resident of England, will be the guest musician.
The highlight of the evening is the presentation of three “Spirit Awards,” given to leading citizens or organizations that have contributed in an extraordinary manner of their time, talent and/or financial resources.
The “Others” Award exemplifies service to others benefiting The Salvation Army and/or the community. The “Volunteer of the Year” Award is given for exceptional volunteer service to enhance and improve their community, while the “Spirit of the Army” Award is presented for significant contributions to The Army’s programs.

Youth movement starts in Costa Mesa
SANTA ANA — Refuge High School Ministry, a program of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, is teaming up the church’s high school and Walking on Water Ministries to host a two-day missional event called Movement May 23 and 24.
The event is targeting 3,000 youth by using art, music, surf, skate, BMX, and moto sports.
The kickoff event will be at 7 p.m. Friday at in the sanctuary at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa and features a concert by Phil Wickham and Steve Fee. Britt Merrick, pastor of Reality Carpenteria, will be the guest speaker. The goal of the evening is to inspire and exhort Orange County youth to get passionate about their faith, challenging them to bring their friends out the following night.
The Main Event, as it is being billed, runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the church’s youth facility and is designed as an outreach ministry for Christian teens to bring their unsaved friends. Music that evening will be provided by Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and L.A. Symphony. Other special guests include skateboard legend Christian Hosoi, a special demo with pro skater Chad TimTim and another demo by motocross team Riders 4 Christ.
The evening will include some big screen entertainment with a screening of “Invisible Children” and a premiere showing of the new surf film “Walking on Water.”
Calvary Church Costa Mesa is located at 3800 S. Fairview Road. The youth center is located at 3232 W. Macarthur Blvd.
“Finally here’s a chance to see pro athletes and musicians all uniting together to reclaim this generation of young people for Christ,” Mike Doyle, director of Walking on Water, said in a news release. “We want to start a movement and it begins with today’s youth.”

Concert to benefit African children
FULLERTON — World Harvest will present its Harvest Summer Concert, a fundraiser for outreach projects in Africa and South Asia, at 5 p.m. June 7 at Pacific Auditorium.
During the concert, organizers will raise awareness—and funds—toward strategic child education and orphanage projects in the Far East.

Strobel to kick off apologetics conference
LA MIRADA — Biola University will kick off its Defending the Faith Apologetics Lecture Series with a May 27 preview event featuring Lee Strobel, author of “The Case for Christ.”
The free event will be held at Chase Gymnasium and will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The actual lecture series will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings from May 29 to June 19 in the Calvary Chapel.
Speakers for the lecture series include J.P. Moreland, John Bloom, Mike Erre, Joe Hellerman, Craig Hazen, Clay Jones and John Mark Reynolds.
Some of the topics for the series will include “The Case for the Existence of God,” “The Reliability of the Bible,” “Evidence for the Resurrection,” “Solving the Problem of Evil” and “The Great Intelligent Design Debate.”
Registration received by May 27 is $185. After that deadline the cost increases to $195.

Men’s center to offer summer retreats
PASADENA — The Center for Christian Men’s Work is presenting a series of weekend retreats this summer.
The first is the annual Father's Day Weekend, set for June 13 to 15 at Fraizer Park. Dads can bring their sons, including those in adulthood. Dads are also welcome to bring their fathers. The weekend includes what is described as a powerful Blessing Ceremony between the generations.
On July 13 to 15, the ministry is hosting a Celebrating Wild-at-Heart Weekend at Oak Glen Christian Conference Center in conjunction with the John Eldredge book, “Wild at Heart.” Although the book was the impetus for the establishment of the men’s center, it is not affiliated with Eldredge’s Ransomed Heart Ministries.
To support men in leadership positions in local churches, the center is hosting its first-ever Men's Ministry Leadership Weekend on Aug. 22 to 24, at a retreat location near Pasadena.
A future weekend will host Men in Mid-Life and be presented at Oak Glen. The location of this weekend is Oak Glen, in the mountains outside San Bernardino.
