LOS ANGELES — A woman was blessed with a midair miracle Tuesday morning as her baby was born onboard. The woman was on a Southwest Airlines flight from San Francisco to Phoenix when she reportedly went into labor.

The woman who had her baby in midair had boarded a 6:24 a.m. flight to Phoenix early Tuesday morning. However, not long after takeoff and at thousands of feet in the air, she began to go into labor.

Fortunately for her, she was blessed to have both a doctor and a nurse onboard the flight. Both medical personnel came forward to help the pregnant woman deliver the baby. Meanwhile, the flight and its 111 other passengers were diverted to Los Angeles International Airport.

The baby was delivered and not long after, the plane landed at LAX at about 7:30 a.m. L.A. fire paramedics transported both mother and child to a local hospital, where they are "doing fine," airport spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado told CNN.

"LAFD praises an ER RN that assisted the mother in giving birth prior to our arrival," Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott stated.

The other passengers of Flight 623 waited for two-and-a-half hours before they could safely continue their journey to Phoenix on a different airplane.
