U.S. presidential polls latest update: Jeb Bush gets help from former U.S. president George W. Bush in South Carolina
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, whose mother Barbara supported his campaign in New Hampshire, received more help from his family as 69-year-old former U.S. president George W. Bush appeared with him at a rally in North Charleston ahead of this weekend's South Carolina primary.

According to the former Florida governor, he was "so honored" that his brother came to be with him at the rally and that he wanted to emulate the older Bush's "steady hand" on U.S. economic and national security issues. Bush also found himself having to defend the former president's legacy in light of recent attacks by fellow presidential candidate Donald Trump. According to the younger Bush, it was "weird" that the Republican front-runner once suggested that then-President Bush should be impeached because of the war in Iraq.
Meanwhile, George W. Bush, who may not have won the presidency if not for the pivotal 2000 Republican primary contest in South Carolina, told the crowd, "There's no doubt in my mind Jeb Bush has the experience and the character to be a great president."
The former U.S. president also joked with his younger brother's supporters at the venue, telling them that they should support Jeb Bush because he has "the most opinionated mother" in the forthcoming primary.
Though he did not talk about the other Republican candidates in his rare political appearance on Monday, Feb. 15, the former president appeared to have alluded to Trump, saying, as quoted by ABC, "These are tough times and I know that Americans are angry, but we do not need someone in the Oval Office who mirrors and inflames our anger and our frustrations."
"Strength is not empty rhetoric," he said. "It is not bluster. It is not theatrics. Real strength comes from integrity and character. And in my experience, the strongest person isn't usually the loudest person in the room."
