"Mozart in the Jungle," the multi-Golden Globe-winning drama-comedy, has been renewed for a third season, Amazon announced on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

"'Mozart in the Jungle' bursts with creativity and passion, and offers audiences something truly unique," Joe Lewis, Amazon Studios' head of half-hour series, said in a statement. "Amazon is proud to have two of the most risky and enthralling comedy series on television today."

The series, which tells the story of a group of symphony musicians, is based on the 2005 memoir "Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music" by professional oboist Blair Tindall. The memoir details Tindall's professional career in New York City and her experience performing with the New York Philharmonic and various orchestras of different Broadway shows. In it, Tindall also dishes on how her generation of classical musicians engaged in mind games and traded sexual favors to survive in the industry.

"Mozart in the Jungle," which aired its first season in December 2014, stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Rodrigo De Souza, Lola Kirke as Hailey Rutledge, Hannah Dunne as Elizabeth "Lizzie" Campbell, Saffron Burrows as Cynthia Taylor, Peter Vack as Alex Merriweather, and Malcolm McDowell as Thomas Pembridge. The Amazon series is executive produced by Roman Coppola, Paul Weitz, and Jason Schwartzman.

In a statement, Schwartzman said: "We're grateful to Amazon for endowing our orchestra with another season. We can't wait to follow our characters through the vast world of music, whether performing on a subway platform or in the grand concert halls of Europe."

Last month, the series won two Golden Globes, one for Best Actor in A Musical or Comedy Series for Gael Garcia Bernal and the other for Best Musical or Comedy Series.

The third season of "Mozart in the Jungle" is expected to air later this year.
