LEGO promotes new baby figure with ultrasound

WASHINGTON (Christian Examiner) – Pro-lifers are applauding LEGO for using an ultrasound picture to announce the release of a new baby mini-figure – an action that quickly caught storm on social media and drew more than 14,000 shares and nearly 3,000 comments on the company's Facebook page.

It is the first-ever baby mini-figure from LEGO and is part of the LEGO City "Fun in the Park Set."

LEGO promoted the mini-figure with a digitally created image of an ultrasound – as if the baby mini-figure was in the womb.

"It's a big day!" the announcement read. "The first ever LEGO baby mini-figure says HEY! to the world ... tomorrow."

Pro-choice groups are increasingly pushing back against ultrasound images in the media, as seen on Super Bowl Sunday when NARAL's Twitter feed criticized a humorous Doritos commercial for employing an ultrasound, as the Christian Examiner reported.

Melissa Conway, spokesperson for Texas Right to Life, applauded LEGO.

"LEGO's introduction of the LEGO baby acknowledges that life, including preborn life, is literally and figuratively a growing industry," she told the Independent Journal Review. "... This campaign and expansion to the toy line is a fun way to acknowledge that life begins in Mom's tummy and affirms that children can easily and undeniably grasp the importance of life, growth, and family."

Actress Patricia Heaton, who is pro-life, posted the ultrasound picture on Twitter and wrote, "Simply the best!"

Dave Andrusko of National Right to Life News Today also thanked LEGO for the Facebook post.

"Well done, LEGO," he wrote.
