Craig Wayne Boyd vies for votes tonight on The Voice
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Christian Examiner) -- From Blake Shelton to Travis Tritt and The Marshal Tucker Band's Doug Gray -- Craig Wayne Boyd has built a fan base of both big names and average Americans across the nation during his 13-week stint on NBC's hit singing competition The Voice.
Now his future is in their hands as he and three other contestants perform a final number for viewer votes when the show airs tonight at 7 p.m. EST on NBC.
Week after week, Boyd's soulful, southern performances have both surprised and delighted the show's judges and viewers.
"You can watch the show and know that he's on point always," The Voice judge and country music star Blake Shelton told The Tennessean. Boyd is the only remaining member of Shelton's team in this season's competition.
"Can you believe he's been hiding under a rock somewhere in Nashville this whole time?" Shelton said in the news article.
Since his blind audition performance of Tritt's "The Whiskey Ain't Workin," the 33-year-old singer has delivered a diverse set of tunes with his own twist that spanned a variety of genres like southern rock to gospel.
Even in that first performance, Boyd's signature style caught 25-year country music showman, Travis Tritt's attention who said since then he's been "blown away and impressed more and more" by the competition finalist.
"I liked that he was different. He had a different sounding voice that was very recognizable," Tritt said. He called Boyd's version of the hymn 'The Old Rugged Cross' "one of the most soulful, heartfelt vocal deliveries that I've heard in a long, long time."
The competition's winner will take the stage with a host of celebrity performers Tuesday at 8 p.m. including Bruno Mars, Jennifer Hudson, Mark Ronson and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Regardless of the show's outcome, the well-networked Texas native and country music hopeful is favored to have fame after the show's finale.
