CHARLOTTE N.C. (Christian Examiner)—Instead of girls asking how boys can be attracted to them, Lynn Cowell says it's time to ask young women what it takes to be magnetic.

A focus on true beauty that radiates from the inside out can limit the investment of time a young woman gives to "What makes her popular," Cowell asserts, and instead teens and young women can build character on the nine captivating qualities known as the biblical fruit of the Spirit according to Galatians 5.

In Magnetic: Becoming the Girl He Wants, released by WaterBrook Press Sept. 15, Cowell lays a path of empowerment for young women to move beyond negative thoughts and emotions in order to gain confidence—while setting aside others' opinions, according to a publisher's press release.

Cowell, a Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker, equips readers in a way they will be effective in limiting "girl drama" and be able to better invest their time in worthwhile efforts.

Teaching younger women to "replace the agonizing frustration of waiting to be noticed and liked with a deep assurance that she already is," Cowell understands such things because she has been "that girl in the past," she said, and has daughters 19 and 17 who struggle with the same issues.

"For many young women, their deepest wish is to be desired. They long daily to be loved, wanted, and pursued. This deep desire also brings forth their greatest fear—rejection," Cowell said in the release. "I hang around these girls at our house and speak to hundreds at my conferences. My hope for Magnetic is to empower girls with confidence to make wise choices when it comes to relationships with guys."

The 224-page book includes revealing quizzes, interviews with guys, and discussion questions to encourage personal application. The publishers call it "an ideal read for youth groups and small group Bible studies."

Cowell and her husband Greg have been married for over 25 years and are parents of three. She has previously published two devotional books, Devotions for a Revolutionary Year, and His Revolutionary Love.
