SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Christian students at high schools across the nation will have the opportunity to participate April 27 in the Day of Truth, designed to allow students to counter the promotion of the homosexual agenda and peacefully express an opposing viewpoint from a Christian perspective.
Students participating in the event will wear Day of Truth T-shirts and pass out cards during school hours, but outside of class time.
The cards read:
I am speaking the Truth to break the silence. Silence isnt freedom. Its a constraint. Truth tolerates open discussion, because the Truth emerges when healthy discourse is allowed. By proclaiming the Truth in love, hurts will be halted, hearts will be healed, and lives will be saved.
The annual event, sponsored by Alliance Defense Fund, will be held the day after the Day of Silence, promoted by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Educational Network, which asks students to remain silent for an entire day to express their support for the homosexual agenda.
The Day of Truth provides an opportunity for participating students to express a different perspective than the Day of Silence, said Alan Sears, president, chief executive officer and general counsel of the Alliance Defense Fund, which offering assistance to students who initiate it at their schools.
In the past, students who have attempted to speak against the homosexual agenda have been censored or in some cases punished for their beliefs. It is important for students to stand up for their First Amendments right to hear and speak the Truth. After all, the First Amendment applies to everyone.
Last year, ADF launched the Day of Truth as a peaceful, nationwide, student-led event, and students at more than 350 schools nationwide participated.
Allowing students to have a Day of Silence without allowing them to have a Day of Truth limits free speech and the free exchange of ideas, which then limits their ability to make informed decisions, Sears said. Placing limits on student free speech ultimately places limits on learning.
